Manila major airport is the Ninoy Aquino International Airport,  this airport seven kilometres south of Manila City. A wide variety of major international airlines either fly straight into to Manila or you can connect via many hub airports like Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singpore or Kuala Lumpur depending on which way you are travelling from. You can get a connecting flight generally the same day from most of these hub airports.

How to Get to Subic Bay?

Subic Bay is quite easy to get to from Manila.  There are 2 ways you can go, either  by road or fly.

Subic Bay By Road

By Car

Driving from Manilla will take around 2 hours and is 110 kilometers from Manila City center. You can either hire a car from Budget or Avis counter at the airport or arrange one from your hotel in Manilla.

By Bus

There a plenty of air-conditioned buses from Manila to Olongapo City(Subic Bay), that leave every hour on the hour till 10.30pm. Click Here for Victory Liner buses schedule.

Flying to Subic Bay

There is two main seasonal changes – wet and dry, both seasons last for approximately 6 months.

Dry Season

The dry period generally begins from November and concludes round the end of May to the beginning June. When the dry period slides out of the wet season, there will be bursts of rain for a while then fine for the remainder of the day. Towards the height of the dry season there won’t be any rainfall and the heat will be tolerable, sometimes even chilly at night.

Temperatures in Subic at this time of the season will probably be around 25°C (78°F) to 29°C(84°F).

Wet Season

The wet season on Subic is normally from June to October. The first couple of months during the wet season is often the the most severe with significant rain, monsoons and spectacular thunder storms which are very consistent. Storm damage and flooding are a frequent occurrence.

The ambient temperature during this period will hover round the 29°C(84°F) to 33°C(91.4°F) with very high humidity.

The Best Time to Travel to Subic.

Stay away from Subic in the wet season of course if you don’t mind chilling out and observing the rain all day then that is fine. From November onwards the tourist season start and get busier as the day goes by. There will still be some rain, but it is intermittent and is only a minor inconvenience.

The Christmas and New year period the bad weather disapears and temperatures become milder. The majority of the Subic Beach resorts will be booked out during this part of the year for obvious reasons. It is far better to reserve accomadation well ahead if you are planning to travel at this point of the season.

The right time to travel to Subic is in the middle to late dry season (the summer time) from March to June. The temperatures are less severe and no clouds in the sky.

What to Wear when exploring Subic.

If you are planning to visit within the shoulder season in November or June, carry some light-weight wet weather clothing for those 1 hour down pours. Every other period shorts, swimsuits and t-shirts will be enough. If you originate from a milder climate then you might wish to take a sweater because it can get cooler in the nights over the summer time.

The most crucial things you will need to take are insect repellant for the mosquitoes and other nasty flying bugs particularly round the wetter times. Not to mention always carry the sun screen with you.

Mount Pinatubo

Located 37 kilometres just north of Subic, Mt. Pinatubo is one of the largest volcanoes in chain along the western edge of Luzon. Last erupting in 1991 it was recorded as being ten times more powerful than Mount St. Helens and one of the largest in the world with the ash encircling the earth many times over.
